The Beginning...

Well, I'm going to go ahead and start this off now. I am not exactly the most reliable usually, when it comes to remembering deadlines, but I figured I'd go ahead and start this one in the hopes that my friends and family (the ones viewing this, that is) will remind me to keep posting!
All of you most likely know me and know that I am headed out of state for school for the first time. I did all of my undergraduate schooling in Alaska, where I'm from. I'm used to walking to class in forty degrees below zero (Fahrenheit, of course) and having to deal with all kinds of hardships here in Alaska. However, I am also used to certain wonders, like space. Even in a "big city" like Fairbanks, there are VERY few people. So that's the majority of what this blog will be: an explanation of my coping with the world outside of Alaska for the first time in thirteen years. It'll be a good way for me to communicate with everyone so they know how I'm doing in Santa Fe, but this will also be an interesting social experiment: what happens when you throw someone from the outside into a crowded space? (That's the sociologist in me coming out, sorry...)
So, there will be a lot about me in an actual big city. There will be some complaints about the weather, I'm sure (forty below to eighty above is a big difference. And that's supposed to be the average. It's bound to actually get hotter than that!) There is probably going to be a decent amount of me trying to figure out this whole Graduate school thing too. I'm nervous about getting my Masters in English, but I'm also excited, because this is a major step for me. I have wanted to go to the Bread Loaf School of English since I was very young and now I'm starting my schooling through the program! This is the farthest I've ever been from my family, too, so there will probably be a little of that in here as well (especially being away from my kitten for a full six weeks! I have a difficult time being away from her for six hours.) And finally, I will undoubtedly begin blogging about the number one thing in my life: my writing. I am hoping to make two major steps in my writing this summer: finishing two of my novels that have been sitting around for over a year. I will definitely keep updates on how my writing is going.
So be braced for a lot. That is, if I can remember to keep posting to the silly thing! In one week, I head out. I will keep a few posts on my way out of town too, to tell people about my preparations, but the real blogging will start when I get on the plane (though it'll probably be posted afterward! I'm a college student, after all. I can't afford the price for the internet in airports!)
